Privacy Promise

iii) Calls, chat sessions, and other communications

We may record calls, chats, and other communications you have with us to:

  • ensure the quality of our customer service;
  • confirm our discussions and your instructions;
  • handle dissatisfaction or a complaint;
  • use them for training purposes for our staff.

If you do not wish for your communications with us to be recorded, you can notify us by mail or by sending us an email.

  • establish, manage, and offer products or services that meet your needs;
  • determine your eligibility for a product or verify which products or services are best suited to your situation;
  • manage, assess, and underwrite insurance risks;

  • promote and market the products and services we offer or that are offered by our partners, notably insurance companies, claims adjusters, and other intermediaries;

  • report to regulatory bodies or industry entities in accordance with prudent insurance practices and regulatory requirements of the insurance industry, including claims history;
  • detect, prevent, and contain fraud as well as unauthorized or illegal activities;

  • conduct research and development activities with a view to designing, operating, improving, and administering the products and services we offer;
  • disclose your information to our affiliates for the aforementioned purposes.

We may process personal information about you by means of an automated system, such as our online insurance quote tool or our telematics automobile insurance program. Our products and services may use technologies that process information you provide to us with the aim of offering you personalized and tailored insurance services based on your characteristics (that is, your preferences, interests, and behaviors). The use of our automated system, we are convinced, will allow us to offer you prompt and individualized assistance.

Disclosure of Information

Your personal information may be disclosed:

  • with your consent;
  • when required or permitted by law, or in case of emergency to protect your safety;
  • to third parties, partners, including contractors, service providers and their mandates, or fraud prevention agencies.

We require these third parties to ensure protection and processing in accordance with our privacy practices and all applicable laws.

In the context of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets with a third party, it is possible that we disclose your personal information to them. If your personal information becomes subject to new privacy practices, we will notify you.

However, if you withdraw it, it is possible that we cannot provide you with our insurance products and services or offer you our best rates for your insurance policies. Retention and Destruction of Your Personal Information

Our policies establish the rules for the retention and destruction of personal information. As a general rule, we retain information as long as it is reasonable to do so for legal or business purposes. Depending on the type of personal information we collect, the use and purpose of this information, as well as any legal requirement, we might be required to retain your personal information for a specific period.

Our Responsibilities

As part of our commitment to protecting your privacy, we have implemented privacy policies that describe the obligations of staff members of Univesta Insurance and Financial Services Inc. when they handle your personal information. All employees must obtain the necessary consents from you during the collection, use, and/or disclosure of your personal information, in accordance with the law. Furthermore, they can only access your information if they need it in the performance of their duties.

The role of management in protecting your personal information notably consists of ensuring compliance with appropriate guidelines regarding retention and destruction, and maintaining a reporting process with our Person Responsible for the Protection of Personal Information.

  • acts as a point of contact with regulatory bodies and authorities;
  • handles complaints, concerns, and answers questions.

Our Person Responsible for the Protection of Personal Information will collaborate with you to obtain all relevant information, carefully review your questions, concerns, or complaints, and provide you with a clear response.
